Must Have Android App: AdFree Android (Rooted Users Only)

I consider myself pretty well verse in the Android world, but I am still coming across applications on a weekly basis that I never knew existed.  My goal is to provide you with an overview of some of the best apps available for Android and AdFree Android is no exception.  This application was first introduced back in January, but with new Android users arriving daily, I figured I would touch upon this “Must Have” app.

Have you ever downloaded a free application in the Android Market and your only complaint was having to deal with advertisements?  This is not every app, but there are a lot of them out there where the only gain you have by purchasing the paid version is losing the annoying ads that pop up in your free app.

AdFree Android:

The premise of this app is simple.  The goal is to remove most of the ads you see by running some of your apps, and even in your browser.  The way this works is that the application will automatically check your phone looking for known host names serving ads, and it blocks the request to those hosts providing you with a free app, and no ads!  This also works really well in your Browser!  From the screens above you can see that opening the app for the first time will give you a screen showing it’s settings.  The only thing you need to do is select “Download & Install Hosts”.  This process takes literally less than 30 seconds and you’re good to go.  If you ever need to open the app again it will automatically search for host updates keeping you ad free.  I have been using this app for a while now, and have yet to see even one ad!

Please remember this app is only available for rooted users, but if you fit the criteria you will be very happy with this free app.
