Some unfortunate news coming in this morning that some rooted Nook Colors are being reset and removing root access when accessing the Nook Online shop! The device does a factory reset, wipes everything and starts you back at the beginning. The good news is this is not reported to be installing any patches or security fixes. So you can easily re-root your Nook Color so everything will be as before.
No word from B&N if this is just a technical issue or if this is a planned way to get back at hackers! Also not all rooted Nook Colors are reporting the reset so I think this just maybe a server issue with the online shop.
Anyone have this happen to their Nook Color? Think this is a way for B&N to stick it to the hacking community? Drop us a comment below and let us know.
Time and time again we warn of the dangers of rooting and the dangers of installing a manufacturer update that gets pushed out via OTA. This particular issue is slightly different. With out a notice, a warning or option to say “NO”, people are reporting factory resets are occurring.
This seems to be happening to rooted NOOKcolors when accessing the online shop. The device then does a factory reset, wipes everything and starts you back at the beginning. The good news is this is not reported to be installing any patches or security fix’s. So you you can easily re-root your NC and everything is back up and running as before.
Thank goodness its not permanent. No word yet on if this is just some technical issue or if it is Barnes & Nobles attempt to thwart hackers. The factory reset seems to be limited to only a handful of rooteddevices at the moment. If you run into this issue please let us know about it.
