The smartphone world is gleaming with excitement as CES 2011 is just around the corner. This is a very exciting time for HTC as the rumors of them announcing three new devices at the trade show grow. One of these new devices is the EVO Shift 4G. The screen size will be 3.6″ instead of the 4.3″ seen on the EVO 4G. The Shift 4G will be a great device with a slide out keyboard, which will please the market for non-touchscreen lovers. Expect this phone to pack a mighty punch with all the capabilities of the standard EVO 4G. Earlier today consumers were teased when the device was briefly spotted on Amazon.com before abruptly being taken down. Could HTC be behind this as the anticipation arises for this new device. In 4 days the world will know when the official release dates of these devices will be with full specs.
Although the HTC EVO Shift 4G has not yet been officially announced, this Android OS smartphone is expected to debut very soon. The latest evidence of this was a listing of the product on Amazon.com, even though this was quickly pulled down.
Retailers’ accidentally listing products before they have been formally unveiled is not unusual, as these companies like to have items entered into their databases before launch day, and sometimes employees inadvertently make these entries public before they are supposed to be.
In this case, no new information about the EVO Shift 4G was revealed. While the retailer’s listing had the name that had leaked out before, the image of the device was submitted by a customer and was the one that has been making the rounds on the Web for weeks. And the specifications given were for the original EVO 4G, which was made clear by a listed release date of June of 2010. These are quite different from the specs for the EVO Shift 4G that have leaked out recently.
This calls into question the price for this smartphone that was listed on this page: $200 with a two-year contract. This is the price for the EVO 4G, while a source at Radio Shack says that the upcoming model is going to sell for $150 with contract.
HTC Shift 4G Preliminary Overview
A full set of specifications for this smartphone has yet to emerge, but a great many details have leaked out already.Images show that the EVO Shift 4G will have a 3.6-inch capacitive multi-touch display and a landscape-oriented sliding keyboard. It is supposedly going to run Android OS 2.2 on a 1 GHz processor, and this might be a dual-core chip. Unconfirmed reports also indicate that this smartphone is going to have an 8 megapixel camera, but, somewhat surprisingly, it won’t have a front-facing camera. All sources agree that the EVO Shift 4G is going to be offered by Sprint, and it is going to support this carrier’s WiMAX service, as well as its 3G service, EV-DO. However, some details still remain a mystery, such as its storage capacity. The HTC EVO Shift 4G could be released at CES, a giant electronics tradeshow that kicks off later this week.
