Apparently Sony did not get our memo about releasing their next generation PSP unit based off of the rendered image we have all grown to love. Live from their Tokyo even they just announced their next generation PlayStation Portable which is actually codenamed NGP and it looks to be a well rounded updated version of their initial PSP offering. NGP is said to revolve around five key concepts being Revolutionary User Interface, Social Connectivity, Location based Entertainment and Converging real and Virtual reality. The specs for the device are certainly impressive featuring a 5″ OLED display with 960 x 554 resolution, dual analog sticks, 3G, WiFi, GPS, front and rear touchpads, an electric compass, and cameras on both the front and rear of the device. The device was said to be available this holiday season, but no official word on pricing has yet been announced. One thing worth mentioning is that there will be no more use of UMD’s as these games will now come on “New Media”. Keep it here as the story develops and drop us a comment with your thoughts. Personally I would have loved to see the NGP come out looking like the above mentioned render, how about you?
