[UPDATED: Disappointment] Great News for Droid Owners, Bootloader Keys Released?

| March 21, 2011 | 3 Replies

If you’ve bought any Android phone by Motorola and are a root user, surely you know the woes of the encrypted bootloader. Well, great news for you, possibly, one man, nenolod , may have used a method to extract the keys from the bootloader. What this means for y’all is that it’s possible that we could use these keys to put on an alternate recovery through an SBF signed with the respective keys and mod to your hearts content. Now, before you get to excited, nenolod has said he will not be doing any further work on it and, to this date, the method has been untested. However, the Free My Moto team has proudly taken up arms to continue the project. If you want to watch everything unfold and get the fastest news, make sure you join the IRC channel (server: irc.freenode.net, channel: ##pbf, if you’re using an IRC client)

So what do you think? Excited? Skeptical? I for one am skeptical, but hopeful. Tell us what you think in the comments!

UPDATE:  Well, turns out it was a hoax.  I can’t say I’m too surprised, albeit disappointed.  Sorry to get everybody’s hopes up.

Unfortunately birdman said that this is unlikely as it was never tested. Still an ingenious starting point that maybe can be forced anyway!
