[Updated] Official Droid X OTA update trickling out?

| April 12, 2011 | Reply

I know a lot of Droid X owners are running the unofficial Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) on their phones. The leaked pre-release version (system version 4.5.573) came to us via P3Droid and Team Black Hat, complete with pre-rooted and pre-deoxed version. Now we’re hearing that the official OTA (Over-the-air) update might slowly be starting to hit devices.

Somebody posted over at Droid X Forums about their DX giving them a message saying that update 4.5.588 (newer system version than the leak) has been downloaded and is ready to install. P3Droid quickly obtained a copy of the update and is currently checking it out to see whether it is okay to take it or not (in regards to the ability to root afterwards).

In his early assessment of the update P3Droid has guessed that you will not be able to go back to version 2.3.340 after updating as you can with the leak. He says that the update has a new bootloader and cdt table.

Follow @P3Droid on Twitter to keep up on the latest on this development.

UPDATE: According to P3Droid if you’re running stock 2.3.340 firmware and don’t want to receive this silent update yet you can delete adsense.apk from /system/app to stop it from automatically downloading (must be rooted).
