Official Droid X Gingerbread Update To Start Rolling Out On Friday

| May 25, 2011 | Reply

We knew it was coming but just didn’t know exactly when… But after tons of rumors and a few leaks of pre-release builds we now have an official date for the official Droid X Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) Over-the-Air update (.596 build)¬†from Verizon.

Starting this Friday, 5/27 Verizon will start pushing out the update to eager Droid X owners. They’ll probably be pushing it in waves, so you might not get the notification on Friday. Of course, once it starts rolling out the update will almost immediately become available from the multiple Android sites for manual updating. You could also start trying to pull the update down manually starting at midnight on Thursday (well, technically Friday I guess). To attempt to pull the update, go to Settings – About Phone – System Updates.

Be aware, though, that if you’re a user that likes having their root – the whole root situation for this update isn’t fully known yet. Droid-Life is reporting that this update will make rooting extremely difficult, so if root is important to you it’s probably best to wait for confirmation of a proven root method.

What will you be getting with this new update? Check out the changelog in the photo gallery below:
