CyanogenMod 7 (CM7) BETA released for the Droid X

| June 15, 2011 | Reply

Today is a great day for Motorola Droid X users who are into modding their phones. The well-know Android developer, CVPCS, has finally completed the first beta build of CyanogenMod 7 (CM7)for the phone. If you don’t know what CyanogenMod is then you probably don’t mod your phone, so disregard this (you can also check out this wiki to find out more about it). But if you do know and have been wishing that you could run some CM7 goodness on your DX, then rejoice!┬áKeep in mind, your bootloader will still be locked once installed but according to CVPCS that shouldn’t restrict any of the CM7 functionality that is enjoyed on multiple other devices.

Also remember: This is a BETA – so there WILL be bugs… If you’re not alright with that then you should probably just wait for it to be out of beta. Below is a quick list of what has been confirmed as working/not working:

Some things that are known to NOT work:
camera/camcorder, there have been reports that youtube is hit-or-miss, torch force-closes (flashlight).

Things that have been reported TO work:
audio playback, radio, 3g/data, calling, video playback, gps, accelerometer, notification lights, battery charging, usb connectivity, bluetooth, bluetooth audio, bluetooth calling, wifi, opengl, theme engine, market installs, dsp manager, maybe more?

If you’re a DX user and still reading this you’re probably saying “well how do I get this thing installed?!”. The answer: Hit up the release thread over on RootzWiki Forums for the super-easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions!

This is some pretty awesome stuff that CVPCS pulled off, so take a moment of your time to throw some props his way.
