Anyone out there have Gmail? Oh…a few of you? Today, in their official blog, Google notified users they detected a campaign, seemingly originating in China, to collect user passwords to personal Gmail accounts. While they seem to have staved off major infiltration, Google does admit a number of accounts have been compromised. The main attack plan seems to have been a phishing scam, and after passwords were acquired, the scammers would log in to accounts and set up forwards from victim’s email to other addresses.
If you check out Google’s blog, you can find some suggestions for increasing security on your account and ways to verify your account wasn’t one that was compromised.
