Google Maps may be getting offline mode soon

| June 8, 2011 | Reply

In the next major update to Google Maps, we may see a new offline mode. You can now cache your directions if you have them loaded currently, but you cannot load any new map or new direction if you have no internet connection to your device. With Nokia and WP7 taking the offline maps feature on, it only makes sense that Goog will follow suit. It’s also free, which means Garmin, Navigon and TomTom will not like the idea of this very much. It is wait and see at this point, but it makes good sense with google changing its maps to vector for better file compression and the increase in memory on phones.
