Online Auto Systems Like Onstar Get Hacked, Someone Can Unlock And Start your Car via SMS

| August 1, 2011 | Reply

It only took security researchers Mathew Solnik and Don Bailey about two hours to crack the protocol used from systems like Onstar to be able to unlock and even start some cars via sms. The duo intercepted the wireless messages that travel between the car and the remote control system. They have said the hack has worked on two different systems so far and it may work on more. Being white hat hackers, they wont release the exploit until a fix is found and applied. They will present the concept to a group during the Black Hat Conference this week.
