According to the Wall Street Journal, and confirmed by Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney, Verizon Wireless won’t be carrying the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S II. If this report is true, there will be tons Android faithful highly disappointed.
According to Droid-Life, there was talk of the upcoming Samsung Stratosphere being VZW’s version of the SGS2, but it looks like that phone will just be a Samsung Epic 4G variant. DL also points out that it simply wouldn’t make sense for VZW to have the SGS2 in their lineup if VZW is going to carry the Nexus Prime (also Samsung), as rumor has it.
When asked why they won’t be carrying the SGS2, Verizon simply stated that they “have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge.”. Sounds like they’re basically saying that they can’t have too many high-end phones from the same manufacturer, with the Charge already being on board and the Nexus Prime coming up. We don’t know that for sure, but I’m sure many are now going to hold onto that hope.
The Galaxy S II WILL be making its way to AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, though – So if you simply have to have the device but are on Verizon, you might want to start considering a carrier switch. I guess we’ll find out for sure whether this report is true on Monday, Sept. 5th, when Samsung holds their event to announce the SGS2′s U.S. launch.
So, how do you feel about this news? Were you one of the many who were waiting on the SGS2? If Verizon really doesn’t get it, would you consider grabbing a DROID Bionic – Or will you wait (and hope) for the Nexus Prime or something else? Comment below and let us know!
