Netflix Renames DVD Mailing Service Qwikster, Targets Gamefly By Adding Games

Netflix raised prices and people weren’t happy. The CEO was sure that it would help curb people towards online viewing – but he was wrong. Sales were down pretty good last quarter and stocks dove. The CEO said he was wrong and they haven’t lowered prices but they have split DVD mailing to a separate company – qwikster. Yes it’s a stupid name and nobody knows why they are using it but they are.Netflix has also announced they will begin to rent out games as well as DVDs in the new structure. It should only cost a few extra dollars per month to add the video game option to your Netflix plan. This will likely help the subscriber base grow once again. Gamefly has had pretty much zero competition since it started, and they probably weren’t happy to see this announcement. Netflix should have times this better with the release of Gears of War 3 tomorrow. but maybe they will be ready for Modern Warfare or Battlefield.
