It is being reported by several media outlets that Steve Jobs, Apple chairman and former CEO, has passed away today. Techcrunch posted the following statement that was apparently made by Apple’s board of directors:

We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.

Steven P. Jobs passed away on October 5, 2011 after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was just 56 years old. He played a key role in revolutionizing the way we use computers and mobile dives today. We wish his family the very best.
