Flyboard: You Want This Awesome Hydro-Powered Jetpack!

| December 6, 2011 | Reply

Ok, you’ve all seen videos of the various attempts at creating a functional jetpack. Most of them, while cool, look pretty awkward, have limited control, and seem downright dangerous. Enter, Flyboard…

The Flyboard, built by French water sports enthusiast Franky Zapata, is a water-powered jetpack that allows him to hoover high above the water and dive in and out of the water like a dolphin. Water jets attached to the feet allow him to turn way more effectively than other jetpacks, and hand-attached jets add to the steering control.

How does it work? Water is fed into the system through a jetski’s output (as long as it has a 100HP motor), or you can get the more expensive pro system which includes its own little inboard motor (seen in the video below).

One of these can be yours for only $6,600, for the basic kit. While not cheap, that’s a steal when compared to other jetpacks out there that seem less fun and cost thousands and thousands of dollars more.

I don’t know about you, but I WANT! I’ll stop blabbing now and let you check out the video:
