| August 5, 2012 | Reply

Curiosity is the new rover designed by NASA to land on mars later tonight. Compared to the other very successful Mars rover this one is 10 times heavier and has 15 times the payload capabilities. This means more experiments and scientific discovery about the planet. As the time of this writing the rover is perfectly on track for it’s destination landing spot. The network status is going great as well in communicating with the rover. What can you expect when the ship approaches and lands””For tonight, the atmosphere looks perfect. Although it might get a little dusty after we land, we’ve got great weather for landing,” said Adam Steltzner, Entry, Descent and Landing phase lead. “The team is ready, the spacecraft is ready and it’s to the fates.” So all signs are a go and at about 1:30AM EST You can watch the landing live. Live coverage of the approach and landing will start at 11:30PM EST on the Spaceflight Now website. This is a very important trip for NASA as we head closer to manned flight to Mars. There is a planned trip to Mars with humans aboard scheduled to take place in 2024 which isn’t very long in space time.If you don’t recall, the rocket carrying the rover was launched way back in November of 2011. If you have a child you should let them stay up late to watch this event. It is hoping to be one of the major points in recent space exploration history.
